Foundation For A Breastfeeding Culture, Inc. was developed as a county wide effort to reduce the gap in disparities among
breastfeeding services provided in Miami-DadeCounty and compliment existing service.

Our Mission:
Is to reduce early cessation of breastfeeding through cultural change thereby lowering infant mortality and morbidity.

Goals:

- Facilitate the acceptance of breastfeeding as the societal norm and perferred method for infant feeding.

- Create a supportive public environment for breastfeeding and the use of human milk.

- Encourage and support the healthcare system to effectively advocate breastfeeding initiation and duration of human milk for
human babies.

We recognize this is a culture issue and see the importance of a global support system to help women to breastfeed.

Objectives:

I. Facilitate the acceptance of breastfeeding as the societal norm and perferred method for infant feeding.

a. Increase the incidence of positive breastfeeding messages in the media.

b.Provide social training to help professionals identify causes and solutions for this culture problem.


II. Create a supportive public environment for breastfeeding and the use of human milk.

a. Provide training to all public health care professionals interested.

b. Conduct outreach and facilitate networking to broaden the base of active breastfeeding support.

c. Educate both employers and employees about the benefits of supporting breastfeeding in the workplace, and how to create
a breastfeeding-friendly work environment.

d. Provide educational opportunities for K-12.

e. Education for child care centers and early education facilities on the care and proper use of human milk


III. Encourage and support the healthcare system to effectively advocate breastfeeding initiation and duration of human milk for
human babies.

a. Advance a breastfeeding-friendly model of health care delivery to effectively support exclusive breastfeeding and the
provision of human milk to human babies.

b. Promote breastfeeding awareness and education for healthcare providers and administrators.

c. Provide a team work approach to improving Healthy People 2010 Goals for Breastfeeding.

d. Provide educational programs tailored for professional, paraprofessional and lay audiences.
